If you’re involved with Direct Marketing you will be aware that email and SMS are brilliant ways of helping the environment. There are obvious advantages to electronic direct marketing such as cost and the insight offered by post campaign reports, however, many would argue that the most important advantage is the saving of natural resources over traditional printed direct marketing.
Below are some of the ways that illustrate how email and SMS marketing can help with the environment:
Saves paper – Millions of trees are cleared from forests every year allowing organisations to produce and send paper based communications to prospects and customers. The trees must then be moved and processed using electricity originating from coal burning power stations.
Saves stamps – The production of stamps wastes a variety of natural resources, including paper, ink and glue.
Saves space – Space is at a premium. We just don't have room in our landfills for all the wasted paper generated by paper based communications!
Saves the planet – Paper based direct marketing results in fewer trees and more carbon in the atmosphere! Logging has also destroyed thousands of habitats and eco-systems.
It would be naive to think that traditional direct marketing will stop all together, sometimes printed Direct Marketing is an essential ingredient as part of a campaign. However, the volume can be reduced by executing an email and / or SMS campaign before the paper based element. This will reduce your costs and help the environment. |
